Naughty By Nature Recap

Hip Hop Hooray…

Friday night it all went down at Reverb in Reading,PA. The doors opened at 7pm, DJ Menace was doing what he does best. His hypeman Bi Da Street Luva was getting the crowd jumping as the crowd started filling in and around 8:30pm the first opening act hit the stage.

First up was J Wilk, who went first because another artist “Mirkat”, didn’t show up to perform. J Wilk brought on stage his friends and they all did their thing. The set lasted 15 minutes followed by a brief intermission.

Next up was Baltimore born artist Stonie. Who brought a energy to the stage not seen by many unsigned artist these days. Stonie performed his songs flawlessly and receiving love from the crowd after each track. Stonie’s set lasted 15 minutes, followed by yet another brief intermission.

The final opening act was J Wayne, who’s set was a little longer then the others. J Wayne and his crew flooded the stage and one was a female who was half naked(well not literally).  He was accompanied by one friend on a guitar to help bring the sound behind the music. Their energy was the perfect compliment before Naughty By Nature hit the stage.

After J Wayne’s set the stage area was cleared and out came Naughty By Nature’s stage crew and DJ Kay Gee. The stage was set up with blow up baseball bat logos that read “Naughty By Nature”.  DJ Kay Gee spoke to the crowd playing classic hits from Notorious BIG, Tupac, and more. Then Naughty By Nature’s “O.P.P.” came on and out came Treach and Vin Rock.

The group performed numerous songs from the beginning of their career to today. Throughout the event they even played homage to others in the industry such as Tribe Called Quest, Tupac, Notorious BIG, and many more. There was plenty of talking to the crowd of just under 300 people.

One instance Treach, spoke about the promoters and venue who wanted to cancel the show because of low ticket sales. Treach responded with…

“Fuck that, I don’t give a fuck if we sold 1 ticket or 10,000 tickets we still going to put on a hell of a motherfucka show”

Naughty By Nature’s set went on around about 1 1/2 hours and around 11:30pm they closed the performance out with “Hip Hop Hooray”. With the last song of the night, they invited numerous people from the crowd to be on stage. All in all this was one event that can be considered a classic for all Hip Hop Heads alike. I believe the turn out would of been better with better promotion for these Hip Hop legends.

Tune2This team put together a highlight reel for the event. Check it out below.
